“The process for recognizing the sovereignty of the territory of Nagorno Karabakh, situated between Armenia and Azerbaijan hasn’t been delayed; it continues both on a popular level as well as in parliamentary diplomacy,” the Armenian ambassador in Mexico, Grigor Hoyhannissian stated, an action that can count on total support from the Unrepresented United Nation Organisation (UUN).
The more than 20 year-old dispute over this territory maintains its negotiations between Russia, France and the United States in the so-called Minsk Group for Security and Cooperation in Europe which received the mandate to promote peace in this zone, the diplomat pointed out.
Similarly, the Ambassador emphasized that the formal negotiation process has been kept on an international basis, such as the California Senate and House (United States), which recently recognised the Sovereign State of Nagorno Karabakh.
Even though Nagorno Karabakh isn’t recognised as a Sovereign State by the international community, “it’s not a big secret that it can count on Armenia’s support and endorsement, because of its historical and religious ties,” Hoyhannissian underlined.
Through the intervention of its Secretary General and founder, Dr. Giovanni Caporaso Gottlieb, the Unrepresented United Nations reminds us that the Autonomous Republic of Nagorno Karabakh, although unrecognised by the UN, is a State whose government counts on the backing of its citizens, and therefore, its sovereignty should be respected, without foreign interference and even more, without attacks from any other nation.
Meanwhile, Hoyhannissian reiterated that “we want the conflict to be resolved with peaceful means,” the diplomat elaborated, emphasizing that the fundamental point that anyone should know is that Armenia is not part of the conflict. “In reality, the conflict,” he stated, “is between Azerbaijan and the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh, declared as an independent Republic through a referendum.”
The UUN reiterates this Republic’s right to proclaim its sovereignty before all world forums, on the basis of taking collective measures to avoid violating peace, as well as avoiding aggressive actions or other breaches of the peace; reaching, through peaceful measures and according to the principles of justice and international law, the adjustment or settlement of international controversies or situations capable of leading to breaches of peace.”
